Class Acorn

Dear Acorn Parents/Carers,

A warm welcome to all our Acorns and their families. We hope you have had a wonderful summer break. We are so proud of the children and how well they have settled into school life.

We are very excited to be starting our learning this term looking at ‘Marvelous Me!’ We intend to explore what makes us the unique individuals we are and what makes us so special. We will be reading books such as the colour monster and the angry unicorn to aid the children's understanding of emotions linking to colour and our school policy of ‘Zones of Regulation’.

We will be shortly sending home story telling books, these books have no words in them, they are intended to encourage children to enjoy storytelling and building that vocabulary. Reading books, with words in, will come home once we start formal teaching of phonics. More information will be available at our phonics information evening.

As we start to teach letters and letter formation, we will be sending home worksheets for your child to practice. Please don’t feel any pressure to complete these in any particular timescale. If your child prefers more gross motor activities then writing in mud with a stick, or in sand or foam is just as beneficial.

Tapestry will be up and running shortly, this is a great tool and allows us to share your child’s learning. Please do download it and please feel free to upload any learning and fun your children get up to outside of school.

Your children have all been assigned a house colour. Every child at All Saints is assigned one of four colours and the children can earn house points by being ‘Ready, Respectful and Safe’. As they reach a certain number of points they are awarded badges in our praise assemblies. We can also earn merit awards as a class and once we reach 25 merits, we get a class treat, previous classes have enjoyed treats such as a ‘cinema’ or teddy bear’s picnic!

Please could PE kits come into school as soon as possible, we will be doing PE this term on a Tuesday. Thank you for your support with helping the children to be independent in their changing, it will mean we get so much more out of these sessions. Please can we also have wellies and a waterproof coat in school every day, we do like to get outside as much as possible.

Please feel free to speak to us at the end of the day if you have any questions or concerns as we progress though the coming weeks. We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead.

Thank you for your support.

Mrs Sullivan and all of the Acorn team.
